Feelings for Sale
You need some hot summer reading for when you're vacationing on the beach, at the pool or under the viaduct etcetera? Check out my new comic book, Men's Feelings. I'll post more about it soon. It's an all new collection of short gag strips that aren't really gag strips. Which is why they will blow your mind. It's my first solo comic book in a long time (since It Lives!). It's five bucks and free shipping (in the US) on my site, so grab one TODAY (also available from the publisher, Revival House Press as well as the Cat Shop).

Eisner Nomination; Full Story Posted Online

The story I did with Jeff Wilson for Injury #4, "A Birdsong Shatters the Still," just got nominated for an Eisner in the category of "Best Short Story." We're both freaked and honored to be in consideration for this award. If you're a comics pro and voting in the Eisners, please consider voting for us.
In honor of that, we've posted the story online at What Things Do.
If you're too busy and just want the short version, here goes. A group of teens get stoned before reporting to detention. They have to stay quiet. That's pretty much it. Now go vote.
BTW: Michael Kupperman (Tales Designed to Thrizzle) has a story up for the same award. I love his stuff. His story is posted here.

A trip to the comic shop is in order…
Hey! Injury 4 just came out with this week's releases of comics from Diamond. If you haven't picked up Injury 4 yet, now's a great time to swing by your local comic shop and grab one! Or just read it in the store! Or bring some glue with you and glue the pages together. It's not my place to tell you what you can and can't do. BTW bring six bucks and some change with you. Christmas update: if you know anyone who uses a mylar comics sleeve as a christmas stocking, then this comic would make a great stocking stuffer. #mylarsleevestockingstufferz

Going to SPX?
I'm one of the forlorn few who won't be there - but if you will and you're in need of the latest issue of Injury, elbow your way over to the USS Catastrophe table (D13B) - manned by Kevin Huizenga and/or Dan Zettwoch. There you will find: copies of Injury, including the hot selling #4, plus cheap signed posters of the covers of Injury #1 and #4.

Injury 4sure
I'm kinda late updating this but the book is printed and looks awesome. I'm working on getting all the Kickstarter orders fulfilled. Alternative Comics kicked in some additional funding to print extra copies and get the book better distribution. It should start hitting comic store shelves in a few weeks, and it's already available from Wow Cool, amazon, and me personally. We're gonna do posters very soon. INJURY 4. COMICS CURRENCY. Enjoy.

Finally a place to rest my head
I just had a minor freakout walking past the claw machine at the grocery store. Inside was a mini pillow with Captain America on it featuring the art of...Frank Robbins!! Pretty much the only time Cap has ever looked badass was when FR was drawing him (outside of Kirby obviously). Weird too, cause Robbins is one of the more excoriated artists among mainstream comics nerds. Frank Robbins is the last dude I'd expect to see gracing any kind of Marvel merch. I woulda tried my luck, but we were there with our kid and there was a big stuffed Brobee right next to the Cap pillow. I mean, I love FR, but I got a fatherly reputation to protect. Sheesh. It does however me wonder what else they got in that claw machine: A plush Bill Everett Sub Mariner? a Carl Burgos Human Torch beer koozy?
BTW: I'm not the only nerd flipping over Frank Robbins in claw machines.
The actual pillow below. Would be a good choice of bedding next time you plan on spending a couple decaded in suspended animation.

Teenagers from Mars
Special behind the scenes look at the making of. It took me forever to come up with a cover for this issue. Out of practice, I guess. I like to do covers that aren't directly related to the contents, but maybe that's a bad idea for sales. You could say that this one is tangentially related.

Kickstarter alert
Hey! The Injury 4 Kickstarter is winding down! There are less than two days to go, so if you wanna get in on it, do so NOW. We sailed past the 100% mark, so I'm officially pleased, but if you want a copy of the book or any of the extra junk on offer, now's the time to ACT.

The pledge drive is ON
Injury 4 is DONE, but I'm publishing it myself, so I'm doing a Kickstarter to raise the cabbage to get it done right (ie, offset printing). So, if you've been pining away for the next issue of Injury - now's your chance to ACT! Get over to Kickstarter and preorder a copy. I've got other stuff up there, too: posters, prints, original art, etc. I'll be adding more soon.
The issue: 36 pages, two stories: one Jeff Wilson autobio tale about DRUGS and DETENTION, and one Beast Biplane story feat. the return of GREG, sweet full color cover, all for 6 bucks (I know! it's the economy - you get free shipping so...eh?). The book should be available in May.
Hey, if that doesn't entice you, check out the amazing trailer that Injury's own Jeff Wilson put together:

Sick cover
From a post at the blog Hard to Look At.
Man alive. How could you see this comic and NOT buy it. I don't know the artist. The character design looks like something from Go Nagai.

sketch
I found a really cool Jack Kirby panel from Thor and repurposed it with Beast Biplane. I just wanted to see if I could approximate that old school style of inking with a brush pen. It's sloppy but that's not the pen's fault. I was anti brush pen for a long time, but I use em here and there. I'm still kinda leery of inking a whole panel with 'em. Like maybe the ghost of Chic Stone will put a curse on me or something.
